One of the main hospital groups in Antwerp (Belgium), containing 9 hospitals, has recently decided to start using the Placard label holder as to improve the efficiency of identification for the contents of their provision cabinets with medical consumables. Quite some sections of a hospital are in need of a large variety of non-medicinal products for the care of their patients. These products concern bandages, diapers, catheters and the like. The correct and efficient provisioning of these consumables is an important part of an effective logistic system within the daily business of each hospital. Shortages or misplacement of consumables cause (cost-)inefficient rush jobs let alone the insufficient service level to the patient.
Label holder
In the past, adhesive labels were put directly onto special plastic holders that were clipped onto trays that contain the medical consumables. When the content changed, the labels needed to be removed which was a time consuming job. Medical staff had to remove the labels manually after soaking the holders into a water basin with detergent. As a consequence, the paper labels got wet and dissolved in the water. However, parts of the labels and the underlying adhesive remained on the holders. Scraping them was a nasty job and adhesive or label residues could not be entirely removed. In the best case, labels and their residues were ultimately removed but the label holder itself was damaged with scratches.
Solution
With the use of the Placard, the plastic label holders remain neat and clean for a long period of time. Whenever needed, the labels can be changed and replaced by new ones. Hence, the medical personnel is released from the frustrating cleaning job so that they can focus on the caring of the patients.
Moreover, the expensive plastic holders have a much longer life-time due to the Placard label holder as a complementary product.
